Artist's Description
This is a view looking north from the popular East River Esplanade near the mayor's official residence, Gracie Mansion. The gracious promenade, aka John Finley Wallk, is adorned here and there with benches and small lawns and flower gardens, and offers magnificent bracing views of the river and the great Triborough and Hell Gate Bridges, both engineering marvels in their day. The slender white structure in the distance, well worth a visit, is the Wards Island Bridge, a pedestrian bridge that crosses the Harlem River at the foot of East 103rd Street.
