This delightful kiosk stands just a few yards west of Broadway in Manhattan's bustling Soho district. To my way of thinking, this kind of offbeat, "hand-made" structure belongs to a special category of architecture -- one that is generally neglected or even despised -- and is also a real treat for the eyes.

Peter Salwen's light-filled urban landscapes are in collections across the U.S., Europe and South America. Salwen's paintings, he says "try to express the deep pleasure to be found in something as simple as sunlight on a wall or the ordinary traffic of people and machinery at city street corner.
