This is a small watercolor value sketch I made for an oil painting of this scene that has always been one of my recent favorites. (Happily, that painting now lives with some dear friends who, sadly, are no longer in the neighborhood.) I love the way the shady part of a city block sometimes seems intensely alive with motion and color.
