Artist's Description

You'd never guess, but there's a substantial hacienda hidden behind and beneath this giant tree on a steep hillside above the town of Temecula in southwestern Riverside County. The hazy, harsh-looking hills in the distance are home to some of California's most famous vineyards. I spent most of an afternoon painting this diptych, and I don't think a single car went by the whole time.

Salwen's paintings, he says "try to express the deep pleasure to be found in something as simple as sunlight on a wall or the ordinary traffic of people and machinery at city street corner.
